Open Question: Nervous about adopting this dog?
After growing up with dogs and now being on my own for 2 years, I feel now is a good time to add a dog to my family. I currently have a cat. I contacted a few shelters asking to let me know when they come across a dog that could be a good match for me. Basically I am looking for a mellow/calm adult dog. They have a 70lb Lab/Shepherd/American Bulldog mixed dog, 4 yrs old. His foster mom said he is very calm in the house, a couch potato really and that he can go 10hrs alone in the day without a potty break. He also does not chew on anything, is living with a 6mo old baby that he loves, gets along with other dogs, and adores cats... BUT He tries to bite to have his nails done and he does steal food off the counters. I know these are things that training can resolve, but it has me a little bit nervous! Plus, I did want a smaller dog, maybe 50lbs or under, but they feel he would be a good fit for me. I am not sure if I should go through with the adoption?
Open Question: A beagle or a British cocker?
My bf and I want to get a medium-size dog, and he wants a British cocker but I also really like beagles. If any of you have either dog could you, please, share your experience. I would like to know if they are hard to train, if they are obedient, and friendly. Also if anybody had both dogs which one would you recommend? Any contribution is welcomed. Thank you I have never had a dog, so I don't have any experience, and he has had a dog before.
Open Question: Why is my cat so clingy?
I'm by no means a negligent pet owner. I play and cuddle with my cat all the time, and between my boyfriend's early work hours that get him home not long after I leave and my night owl tendencies, she's usually only alone for a few hours at a time. And I do want a lap cat, but... She insists on being as close to my face as physically possible at all times. She yowls at the bathroom door when I'm in the shower, she jumps from the kitchen table onto my shoulder while I cook or do dishes, and she keeps me up late and wakes me up early by climbing on top of my head and grooming incessantly. I've only just managed to train her not to climb up my legs. As I write this her head is actively pushing against my cheek. I had thought all cats were standoffish and independent. I love her and wouldn't trade her for the world, but if I knew I was signing up for this much attention this often, I might as well have just gotten a dog. She's almost 2 years old, and I am able to ward her off some of the time with a squirt bottle, but I can't figure out how to reward her not being annoying. Has anyone experienced this? Any pointers? Edit: She's a black domestic shorthair. She was a rescue kitty, so I am wondering if it's related to trauma from her early kittenhood... I do know that she was found alone and very young.
